Alternate San Diego Route Studied by Assemblymen
Orange County officials and Newport Beach leaders urged an alternate highway linking Long Beach to San Diego and a high level bridge or tunnel across upper Newport Bay during a Newport Beach conference with the Assembly interim committee on highways. Proposals discussed northern and southern alignments, with a possible long coastal corridor from Long Beach to San Clemente, and a Bay crossing to expand harbor capacity for 1600 current boats and more moorage for 2000 to 3500 vessels.
