House Approves Atomic Power Navy Ship Plan
The House passed a measure authorizing four carriers five cruisers and a guided missile submarine plus six more atom powered submarines. The total bill amounts to 1 414 661 000 with a 11 000 ton carrier nuclear powered and armed with guided missiles. Debate included criticism that the Navy may benefit from atom driven vessels but supporters cited progress toward new supercarriers and strength for national defense.
