Labor Gains Voice in Wage and Manpower Policy Mobilization
Washington reports the government will expand organized labor input in wage and manpower policy for the wartime mobilization. A seven point plan outlines a three day conference starting January 10 with five labor and four business representatives to draft a national wage stabilization policy. The agenda covers cost of living pay raises, social security benefits, health, welfare and pension programs. Labor dominance suggests higher employee pay before any freeze, shaping voluntary stabilization and later mandatory controls. NEC and SE C data show 1951 production spending rising 20 percent with a $21.9 billion expansion plan, but material shortages threaten full realization. CIO and AFL leaders to join the National Production Authority as advisers to influence critical material allocations during the wartime shift.
