Mr and Mrs William Maurer and their daughter Virginia Darlene joined John M Cain for a Christmas Day turkey dinner at the apartment of John W Teed located at 621 Pine Ave this week.
A 17th wedding anniversary was celebrated by Mr and Mrs Leroy DeGraff of 2140 Ocana Ave at a Yale party. Guests included Glenn Whaley Fred Mitchuse Ralph Harnedes Bernard Jacks ski Fred Sutter Helen Jackowski and Roy Brown among others.
Mr and Mrs Frank Buckman and family of 4193 Gaviota Ave spent Christmas Day with their son in law and daughter Virgil Hasten and wife and sons Nicholas and Theodore in Costa Mesa.
Mrs Virginia Wicks Underwood of New York City traveled home for Christmas and her sister Camilla’s wedding to Robert H Thomas. Underwood served as matron of honor beside a party hosting guests including Captain and Mrs Robert Rife, Dr and Mrs Douglas W Stephens, and numerous friends from Wilmington Fullerton and nearby towns.
Open House Sunday will fete Mr and Mrs Jorge Hughes at 16137 S Woodruff Ave Bellflower for their golden wedding. The event runs 2 30 to 6 p m at daughter Mrs W R B Donaho 16403 S California Ave Bellflower. They married in Philadelphia on New Year’s Eve 1901, moved to Long Beach in 1912, then Bellflower in 1935. Mr Hughes worked in electrical and shipyard jobs in the Long Beach area and served as head maintenance and electrical man for Halboa Movie Production Co. The couple have a son George Hughes Jr and three grandchildren Robert Sharon and Bill Hughes.
Alumnae gathered Monday at the Virginia Country Club for a holiday breakfast honoring Long Beach girls now studying at Mills College and their mothers. Attendees included Carol Conner, Millicent Rodgers, Jennifer Hicks, Sylvia St. Clair, Leslie Lebkicher, Lynda Taves, and Nancy White, with Mrs. Graham Feather man as hospitality head and Mrs. Robert Arnold assisting.
Members of the Tone Hearhen Doll Collectors Club gathered at Mrs. Jean McDonald’s home at 828 W 29th St for a luncheon and exhibit of antique Parian, wax, and bisque dolls. A French 1860s bisque doll with a Paris wardrobe trunk, recently received, was deemed the finest piece, containing dresses, accessories, and period finery. Attendees included H. L. Beckley, Ruth Russell, Oliver Matheson, Mace Cox, Stephen Hemmi, Marie Lamoureaux, C I Rowland, Jan DeArmond, Earle R. Bobbe, and Lawrence Miles, with assistance from Mrs. McDonald’s mother, sister, and daughter.
The Real-Ette Club held a holiday party at 500 W Ocean Blvd with 75 guests and stories from former Governor Frank Merriam. Beverly Jean Cody married Paul Edward Massora at All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. F Augustus Martyr officiating. The couple plans an extended honeymoon in the Hawaiian Islands before living in Europe.
Mrs. William C. Abrams hosted the Tuesday Morning Study Club at 955 California Ave. The group enjoyed a bridge session after a hunch luncheon with attendees including Mesdames Berry, Davis, Good knight, Hair, Harlow, Kendall, Inman, Jones, Owens, Dial, Bracks, Chaffin, and Miller from nearby cities.
The annual YLI Christmas party at the YWCA auditorium featured Una Brennan as December committee chair with help from Katherine Biewer Maude ODonnell Martha Metzger Rose Short Collette Collins Irene Beazley Anita Rigby Florence Murphy Louise Sheelat and Monica Ryan. Carols and a pan tomime of The Might Before Christmas had Monica Ryan as Santa revealing secret sisters. Rev Leland Boyer was an honored guest. A food and clothing basket was collected for a Catholic Welfare family. Seventeen boxes of personal items were prepared for women patients in General Hospital's tuberculosis ward. Lois Jenner chaired the welfare committee with Dorothy Evans Kay Stahlheber and Helen Welty assisting.
St Barnabas Hospital NEA NK Newahk New Jersey opens a day nursery to care for children of nurses recalled to work. The facility, one of the nation’s first, lets mother nurses wear white uniforms again, knowing their children are cared for. It operates daily 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with planned play and rest in a cheerful room filled with toys, picture books, cribs and a radio.
Christopher Robin Webb, infant son of Mr and Mrs Theodore J Webb of 3616 Colorado St, was baptized Sunday at Belmont Heights Methodist Church by Dr Grover C Bagby. Godparents were Mr and Mrs Charles B Nelson of Davis. Open house followed with a Yuletide red tree, red decor, and wassail wishes.
Dana B Bullock and Luz Consuelo Soto reaffirmed their marriage vows before Judge A D Boone in Downey on their first anniversary of the foreign marriage. Attending were the bridegroom’s parents and a dinner followed. The bride wore an aquamarine gown with light orchids. she is from Los Angeles and attended high school there. The groom attended Polytechnic High School. They reside at 15123 Ryon Ave Bellflower.
Mr and Mrs Jack Linder of 224 Termine Ave were honored at a Brewers dinner party for their 25th wedding anniversary. The event joined a yearly Midwest group gathering since 1946. Gardenias ferns and white carnations decorated the table as guests recalled years together. After dinner the party moved to Glendale for a midnight buffet hosted by Mr and Mrs Walter W Miller and assisted by Mr and Mrs Lester Orman of Burbank. The Linders stayed as house guests a few days and a dinner was held for Mrs Linders birthday.

Informal event at 862nd Place honored Mr and Mrs Kenneth G Scott as hosts. Guests included Frank Bowers Donald Hunter Jerry Chrisman Leonard Mitchell and Capt and Mrs Herbert D Lewin. The Chris mans surprised with a decorated wedding cake marking 19 years of marriage.
