Hungary May Be Awaiting Kremlin Word
American officials waited for word on four jailed U S fliers in Budapest. Hungary delays on paying a 120000 dollar fine sparked questions about new conditions. Officials hoped for quick release and peaceful handover to the U S legation rather than being dumped at the Austrian border.

Convicted Red Gets 3 Years on Contempt
In New York on December 27 Gus Hall, among 11 convicted Communists, was sentenced to three years for criminal contempt of court. The term adds to a five-year conspiracy sentence for teaching violent overthrow and reflects his failure to surrender to begin serving that term and for leaving court jurisdiction. Judge Sylvester J. Ryan imposed concurrent three-year contempt terms to be served after the five-year plan, noting rare but purposeful disregard for court orders. Three others also failed to surrender and remain at large.
