MacArthur recounts Korean setback and UN resilience
General Douglas MacArthur said the evacuation of the U S 10th Corps may have saved the United Nations command in Korea from total destruction by Chinese forces. He described China’s entry with 27 divisions as a secret decision that would have destroyed UN troops if the UN command hadn’t split and attacked north. He praised the redeployment as possibly the most significant move of the war and noted the test of the UN was surviving China’s overwhelming force without losing strength or mobility. The Chinese intervention, he added, interrupted but did not derail UN operations.
