Residents Question Port Tract Condemnation Plan
Mixed feelings prevail among harbor area residents as the Harbor Department seeks to condemn a 70 acre tract due to earth subsidence. Homeowners fear losing homes and income while absentee landlords worry about fair claims. Some residents recall past flooding and question port delay, though a few seek peaceful resolution and spiritual comfort.

Lakewood plans vast eastward expansion of housing
Lakewood, led by Lakewood Park Corp and Alden Construction Co, proposes 867 acres east of the San Gabriel River for 12,144 homes. The project, bounded by San Gabriel River to the west, Pioneer Blvd to the east, and Spring St to the south, would add housing as Lakewood expands from its current 20,800 homes built since WWII. Pending regional planning hearings, it could reshape the Long Beach area with a major residential push led by Ben Weingart’s Junior Realty Co and local developers.
