Army corporal who dined with Eisenhower dies in Korea
Cpl. James E. Murray, who had lunch with President-elect Dwight Eisenhower on Dec. 4 at the Korean front, was killed Dec. 9 while leading a patrol 114 miles in front of UN lines. Murray, a Bronze Star recipient from Porum Oklahoma, was lauded by his commander Lt. John J. Richards and remembered for attempting to save comrades before he fell. Eisenhower expressed grief, noting Murray’s service and his brief friendship.

Fourteen Die In Korea Air Evacuation Collision
Twenty or more persons were aboard two planes at a western Korean air base when a single engine plane struck an air evacuation C47 on takeoff. French Premier Pinay Quits Post
Paris reports President Vincent Auriol accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Antoine Pinay sixteen hours after he submitted it. Northwest prisoners escape tunnel manhunt ends in Portland capture
