500 Arrested in Argentine Plot

Unofficial reports say Gen. Pedro Aramburu's provisional government arrested about 500 suspects in a large plot aimed at causing chaos rather than a revolution. The raids began in La Plata and continued Friday as officials held back details awaiting Sunday official releases.

U S and Britain Offer 70 Million for Egypt Dam Project

The United States and Britain propose 70 million dollars to support Egypt's Nile dam. Initial funding would be 60 million, with the U S contributing 56 and Britain 14. The move aims to counter Soviet influence in the Middle East and deter Communist arms to Egypt. Store Bandit Robs Compton Market For Over $2000

A young bandit held up two women clerks at Wiley's Market, 1739 N Santa Fe Ave, as the store opened at 7 am. He escaped with more than $2,000 in cash and an undetermined number of checks after forcing the victims to the washroom. Mrs Petty Wiley and Mrs Mary Wiley, wives of the co-owners Earl and Raymond Wiley, were in the store during the robbery. Police were alerted as the bandit fled.
