Airman Ernest P. Gooris of Glassport Pennsylvania disarmed two live bombs stuck on a bomb rack while a 60 second fuse ticked away aboard a Superfortress returning from a North Korea mission. In 40 below zero temperatures he crawled into the bomb bay and removed the fuses in 28 seconds preventing catastrophe.
The State Department reportedly urged Israel to release 50 American volunteers from the Israel army by December 21. If they remain in service after that date they could lose U S citizenship under the McCarran Act which cancels citizenship for Americans in foreign armed forces without special authorization from State and Defense. The department has not granted such authorization.
