Protestant Leaders Reaffirm Separation of Church and State
Protestant leaders from 30 churches reiterated church state separation while urging 35 million members to live by Christian principles. They called for more religious education in schools but opposed government aid to parochial schools, condemned religious and racial discrimination, and urged members to seek political office to curb corruption. The message, from the National Council of Churches assembly, also touches on faith, peace, and the need for spiritual revival ahead of Eisenhower’s inauguration.
