San Francisco AP Arthur H. Artie Samish 55 was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 40 600 for federal income tax evasion. He was convicted of dodging 71 878 from 1946 to 1951 with eight counts concurrent. He faces civil liabilities up to 109 000. The defense plans an appeal.
Henry D. Bauman, 40, a Long Beach used car dealer, pleaded innocent to carrying a concealed weapon after release by Pasadena authorities on suspicion of attempted murder of his wife Patricia, 29. He was arrested in a tavern after allegedly striking her with a pistol in her Pasadena apartment. one shot was fired, apparently accidentally. Deputy District Attorney John Loucks declined to file attempted murder due to insufficient evidence. Long Beach police continue investigations.
About 300 senior Israeli government officials walked out for a one day strike demanding higher pay and job grading by qualifications. Leaders included Dr. Walter Eyton general director of the foreign ministry and Dr. Shmuel Beh Dor head of the Sunrays North American section.
Four masked gunmen robbed Arthur Murray, a New York dance instructor, and his wife of 25 000 dollars in gems at their Park Avenue apartment. They forced the wife to open a safe and sent away a building employee after a neighbor heard a scream. A elevator operator guided the bandits to the 14th floor where Mrs. Murray answered the door. In addition to jewels, the bandits took 150 dollars in cash and a portable radio. no insurance on the jewels.
U N envoy Arthur H Dean warned that the preliminary Korean peace talks may end if progress stalls. He said the American delegation could leave before December 20 as allied negotiators press for a viable path to agreement. Russia’s neutral observer role remained a sticking point while South Korean prisoners refused repatriation and would remain under Communist rule.
Robert Jones, 32, fleeing a shoe shop after refusing 30 cents for purse repair, was shot and killed Tuesday night by Patrolman Raymond Robin after ignoring a halt warning. The incident occurred as Jones departed the shop, with authorities investigating the fatal shooting.

A 19 year old Marine prisoner Donald W. Thomas was shot by a guard as he fled to escape from the Long Beach Navy Base on Terminal Island. He was hit in the back and shoulder by four shotgun slugs and is in critical condition at Veterans Administration Hospital. Thomas, AWOL from Camp Pendleton, had been being marched to the mess hall when he ran. the guard fired a warning blast before firing. He is the son of Mrs. Edna Thomas of San Bernardino.
