Bixby Knolls Lights Up For Christmas Display
The Uptown Atlantic Association plans a 65 Santa Claus street ornament display in Bixby Knolls shopping center starting tonight. Eight-foot posts, four-foot Santas, aluminum garlands, and bright lights will illuminate the area from Bixby Rd. to 45th St. The effort is led by B Ray Biiley with Willard Harris as decoration chair. Stores will stay open late from Dec. 10 through Christmas Eve.

Water Costs Five Cents a Ton for Long Beach Users
Frank E. Wall, president of the Long Beach water commission, told the Civic League that the expansion program will soon yield 85 million gallons daily and 100 million gallons storage. When finished, 45 million extra gallons will flow from the Colorado River via the new intake, with current supply around 20 million river gallons and similar local well water. He called cheap water a reality, noted one cent buys 42 gallons and five cents buys 240 gallons, and urged a working capital of one million dollars for emergencies. The autonomous five-man commission oversees a self sustaining department.

Hitchhiker Takes Driver's 50 Cents
A young hitchhiker robbed a Long Beach resident early today after threatening with a gun. Donald E. Jones, 37, a lumber yard foreman, said he picked up a 17 to 20 year old boy on American Ave and Hill St. He drove north to Wardlow Rd where the bandit demanded money and Jones handed over 3 cents. The thief fled at Bixby Rd and escaped on foot.
