B25 with eight aboard missing near Modesto in quake span
SACRAMENTO AP A B25 bomber carrying eight men vanished shortly after midnight near Modesto. By mid morning searchers reported no sign of the craft. The aircraft was en route from Mare Island toward Woodward Reservoir when radio contact was lost. An air sea search including Mather Base and Civil Air Patrol planes pressed the investigation as aftershocks rattled Southern California.

Illness hits Northwest Orient flight from Manila to Seattle
In Anchorage Alaska twenty five exchange students from the Orient aboard a Northwest Orient Airlines flight from Manila fell ill en route. A Providence hospital attendant said preliminary diagnosis pointed to milirator food poison. The captain Bal Richmond and pilot Robert Euttle were among the seriously ill. Nine crew members also affected. The plane had stopped in Okinawa Tokyo and the Aleutians before Anchorage.

Mother Killed as Car Rams Train
A 27 year old woman died after her car crashed into the rear of a stopped Pacific Electric locomotive on Daisy Ave near 15th St. The victim Gertrude Hiatt, survived by her husband Thomas and a 2 year old, was pinned in wreckage. Operator Sanford Hergies, 57, of Downey, said the crash occurred after rain ceased and light was poor. he jumped from the locomotive steps as the impact proved unavoidable. The death toll for the year rose to the same as last year at this date. Three others were injured in separate accidents including Nancy Spriggs, 19, in a two car collision on Amerejuan Ave. and Sixt St. and others injured in incidents on Daisy Ave and Pacific Ave.

President Eisenhower and former President Hoover plan a joint fishing trip in the Colorado Rockies. The White House announced Hoover will be a guest for seven days at a ranch retreat 70 miles north of Aspen on the Continental Divide. AF to Recall Jet Groups From Korea
The U.S. and South Pacific Air Force plans to pull Sabre jets and other planes from Korea and move headquarters to Nagoya Japan.
