Trend Reversed On U S Farm Income For July
Washington reports the Labor Department and Bureau of Labor Statistics say U S farm net income in July will rise to about 417 percent of the 1955 level, signaling the first year-to-year gain since 1951. The gain stems from higher prices, roughly 300 million dollars in government payments, and farm marketing receipts for the first seven months of 1956 at 14.3 billion. Prices later in 1956 are expected higher, while total production may shrink. the index may rise slightly this month. The July living costs reflect new highway user taxes on gasoline, tires, and diesel fuel.
