All Communists in L A County Must Register by Sept 1
Los Angeles county supervisors approved three ordinances requiring all Communists in unincorporated Los Angeles County to register at the sheriff's office or a sheriff's substation by Sept. 1. The measure applies to those living, employed, or doing business in unincorporated areas or who travel through them. Violations carry six months in jail or a 3500 fine per day after Sept. 1. Names remain private to prevent weapons access or civil defense eligibility. The vote was 4 to 0, with Supervisor John Anson Ford not voting to allow more study. Also defines who must register based on association with organizations advancing world Communist movement goals or seeking minority rule.
