Important Ruling Slated by Labor Relations Board
The National Labor Relations Board is poised to issue its most significant Taft Hartley decision yet on maritime hiring halls. Examiners Howard Myers and Wallace Royster found union demands for hiring halls in Great Lakes and Atlantic Gulf ports violated the law, with Myers citing coercion of employees to refrain from union activity, Royster treating it as noncoercive. The five member board’s forthcoming ruling will mark a key test of the law's ban on discriminatory hiring practices.
