Perle Mesta Party Dazzles With Poker of Impersonations
At a Chicago champagne supper hosted by Mrs. Perle Mesta, about 500 guests filled a ballroom, far beyond the planned 350. H.V. Kaltenborn mimicked Truman mimicking Kaltenborn to roaring approval, while Phil Regan and others traded barbs. Regan forgot Harriman’s button as Averell Harriman missed the plug, and Adlai Stevenson had already left. The event showcased star-studded guests including reporters, TV panelists, and politicians in a lively, free-wheeling scene.
