Riot Near Convention As 2000 Protests Escalate
In Chicago, about 2,000 anti Negro demonstrators gathered near the Democratic national convention at the International Amphitheater two miles from the hall. Police dispersed the crowd with 60 officers after windows were broken and a police car was damaged. The disturbance followed rumors of a move by a Negro family into a white neighborhood. The event stemmed from a visit by seven members of a Negro family to Loverde, a city employee, and involved a party traveling from Seattle to West Virginia.
