Bank maps Long Beach history for centennial celebration
The Farmers and Merchants Bank releases an unusual city map of Long Beach for its 100th anniversary. The complimentary document includes up to date housing development guidance, a historical sketch of discovery and settlement, and an illustrated section by Claude G. Putnam titled Historic Highways and Byways. The maps, drawn by Putnam, trace Cabrillo's 1542 encounter, the Los Cerritos and Los Alamitos ranchos, and the city’s map filing dated July 23. They will be distributed at the bank’s Third Street and Pine Avenue location.
