Patriarch Mackinaw Trout Dies at Shasta Hatchery
Shasta Hatchery reports the death of a 24 year old Mackinaw trout weighing 15 pounds. The 26 inch display specimen drew visitors, and three surviving fish were also noted. The state began Mackinaw plantings in 1895 at Lake Tahoe, with later efforts at Eagle Lake and Clear Lake, but no introductions have occurred since 1924 due to predation on other game fish.
