State Prison Director to Pick Panel for San Quentin Survey
State Corrections Director Richard A. Mclace plans a three member panel to study San Quentin Prison psychiatric services after a three day investigation. The panel will include specialists from Stanford and UC medical schools, the Mental Hygiene department and Langley Porter Clinic. The hearing followed charges by a prison psychologist who resigned, with witnesses claiming beatings and sexual assaults. The board found evidence weak and lacking documentation, but noted night shift gaps in psychiatric ward coverage and called for more nighttime professional personnel. Warden Teets said he doubts any beatings occurred and cited staff shortages. Dr M D Willickets, a retired physician, testified.
