Four year old Nicholas Martin rode an office building elevator on St Central Ave in Los Angeles then became trapped between the second and third floors. After a three hour ordeal cries drew James W. Parker who called firefighters who hoisted the boy out through the shaft roof.
Former ambulance driver James H Bernarding is bound over for trial on a charge of attempted assault against the wife of a longtime friend. His trial is set for Aug. 18 after his July 29 arrest at Woodland Hills. Bernarding was on parole after three years of a five to life term for second degree murder in the death of Loreen Bateman. Bond was set at 35000.
