Unwrapping a Carrier Signals Cold War Navy Rebirth
As Korea flares, the United States mothballed ships are being recommissioned or activated. Since January 1, one small carrier Bataan three escorts and a submarine rescue ship have returned to service, plus a submarine and four minesweepers. Eighteen ships have been reassigned to allied nations under mutual defense programs. Two escort carriers have been ordered reactivated for transport use and a seaplane tender is restored, with many vessels still under wraps.
