Reardon Umpire in Controversial Brooklyn Play
Long Beach resident John Beans Reardon faced criticism after signaling a homer on Pon Northey’s ball in a Dodgers Cardinal game at Brooklyn. The play led to a replay order by Commissioner Frick, though Northey would have scored without the miscue. Reardon admits a mistake but denies advising base runners. Frick deemed replay the fair remedy. Reardon, a veteran umpire and local speaker, remains a notable figure in both baseball and winter league circuits.
