Parishioners of Atlantic Aves moved to Hynes and formed Paramount Church after liquidation of indebtedness. A fellowship hall was built then a sanctuary, opened Feb 1952, following the 1950 merger of Central Nov and Trinity Methodist churches.
The White Temple Baptist Church marks its fifth anniversary with an 11 am Sunday service led by Rev. Virgil Harper Fisher. Organized May 7 1950 with 84 charter members the congregation moved to 785 Junipero Ave then bought the Bethel Friends Church site at 10th St and Glidys Ave. Since then $11000 in improvements including a Hammond organ and $4000 art glass windows have been added, seating 325 and membership 354. Charter members guests and the Sanctuary Choir will participate with the anthem Put on Thy Strength O Zion.
The lesson sermon centers on everlasting punishment. It cites Behold happy is the man whom God correcteth and argues sin must be overcome to escape penalties. Citing John 3 14 and Mary Baker Eddy, it asserts Jesus healed sickness and sin by the same process and that God governs all without punishing except sin, to dispel fear of sickness.
Wesley Veatch, assistant minister of First Christian Church, will guest preach at West Side Christian Church 2590 Adriatic Ave. Sunday services at 10:30 am and 7:30 pm in place of minister James LeRoy Shields who attends the North American Christian Convention in Indianapolis. The Youngsday group of First Methodist Church will install new officers Sunday evening led by Rev. Andy Bauer. Harold Morey is president, Ross Grain is vice president, Winnie Anderson serves as secretary, and George W. Grose is treasurer. The group comprises young single adults ages 23 to 35.

John Buchanan Fitzgerald, born in Long Beach February 17 1930 and raised from deacon to priesthood in St Vibiana Cathedral Los Angeles along with 28 other ordinands, will celebrate his first solemn mass Sunday at 12 55 pm in St Anthony's parish church where he served as acolyte and master of ceremonies. Rt Rev Msgr Bernard J Dolan pastor of St Anthony's will assist along with Rev Gerald Cahill and Rev John Keller. The sermon will be preached by Rev James O Callaghan.
Robert O. Tukua of 4304 Lime Ave., Long Beach, will attend a regional Lutheran Brotherhood training conference in Berkeley on May 2 and 3. Bliss Bellinger, winner of the Brotherhood scholarship for advanced study at Pacific Lutheran Seminary, will speak.
