New Definition of Illegal Red Activity Put Forth
W. L. Blair Nixon subcommittee of the House on un American activities has drafted several methods to deal with Communist activity while avoiding unconstitutional and ineffective approaches. The key proposal defines illegal activity as knowing and willful participation in a foreign directed conspiracy plus advocacy of overthrow by any means to subvert U S interests. Other recommendations seek stronger enforcement of existing laws, expansion of related acts, and measures to keep Communists out of government employment and deny passports. Draft bills are not yet available.
