Puerto Rican nationalist gets three year threat sentence

A New York Puerto Rican nationalist named Jose Rivera Colon, 40, was sentenced to three years in prison for threatening to kill President Eisenhower. He called the FBI New York office on March 12 from a drug store payphone and disclosed assassination plans. agents arrested him after a sustained conversation.

Pilot Bails Out During Storm Safe After Night in Field

Maj. Hubert C. Vantrease 33 parachuted from a crippled T-33 jet near Clinton Oklahoma during a violent thunderstorm. He was found eight miles southeast by farmer J. J. Friesen after spending hours in a wind and hail battered field wrapped in his parachute. He told attendants the storm was the worst in 11 years of flying.

Norwalk Mother Admits Girl 9 Cruelly Mistreated

Nine year old Celia Sanchez, disabled by 18 months of abuse from her mother Trinidad Vera, admits loving her mother. Vera, 11858 Tina St., was arrested on suspicion of felony child beating after confessing to deputies that she twisted the girl’s arms until they broke, blinded one eye with a face strike, whipped with a rubber hose, knocked out teeth, and broke bones in the hands and nose. Celia found cowering in a closet and said she saved her mother. Officers said the child had been kept from school since first grade. Celia, once seeing with both eyes, now has impaired vision as doctors assess her injuries. Vera initially admitted the beatings and described Celia as a “good girl.” Continued on Page A-3.
