Boston April 28 Methodism's top law making body the general conference today prepared to take action on 1000 petitions on church union world peace liquor gambling and other issues The conference will meet 10 days and will issue policy and rules for the church's 8 500 000 members for the next four years Thousands of visitors plan to attend daily sessions and evening talks by Dr Louis D Newton Arthur S Flemming John Foster Dulles and Bishop G Bromley Oxnam The bishops will preside but not vote on matters before the conference Two petitions from Roy L Ruth Honolulu superintendent endorse Hawaii statehood and oppose legalized gambling.
