Knight Signs Water Unit Unifying Bill
Gov. Knight signed the Legislature's compromise to merge California's scattered water agencies into a Department of Water Resources. The law takes effect July 5 and creates an $18 000-a-year director as head, with the current water resources board as an advisory body. The ceremony included Assemblyman Caspar Weitberger and Sen. James E. Cabey. Also signed was a revenue distribution revision reallocating tides and oil funds, creating an investment fund for water development.
