Bishop Gerald H Kennedy announced Dr Frederick B Trotter of Alhambra will succeed Dr James L Lyons as Pasadena district superintendent of the Methodist Church starting July 1 Lyons completes a six year term Trotter led Atlantic Ave Church Long Beach 1931 34 and will oversee 48 churches He is USC graduate with theology study in Ireland and Belfast He is past American Legion chaplain with six children and two sons in progress toward ministry Long Beach area notes include relatives and assignments Lyons will return to pastorate at the forthcoming annual conference

A new film The Way Out will debut tonight at Tracy Auditorium 219 E. Seaside Blvd Long Beach during a Youth for Christ rally. The true story follows Aly Johnson a bank robber turned convert and features John son’s conversion after the Hoyt Kansas bank holdup. Navy Family Chapel appoints Canon Patrick as chaplain
Canon William Edward Patrick, former national Legion chaplain, is named chaplain of the Navy Family Chapel. Bishop Francis Eric Bloy announced the move from the Los Angeles Episcopal diocese. Patrick will end his five year tenure at Church of the Good Shepherd Los Angeles with a Sunday service and reception. He has ties to American Legion VFW and DAV. Patrick, a Cambridge native and Harvard, Episcopal Seminary graduate, served in World Wars I and II with multiple decorations. He begins Los Angeles duties May 1.

Trinity Bible Church of Hollydale reports its Sunday School average rose from 400 to 415 in March and to 471 in April. Easter Sunday brought a record 565 in Sunday School and 648 at worship. The church operates nine divisions, 38 classes, and 54 teachers after completing a $30,000 two story educational unit. A planned tower and vestibule project includes a pastor study reception area social hall kitchen and six classrooms with pay as you go volunteer labor.
