Eyewitness depositions describe Royal troops landing at Cambridge, marching to Lexington and Concord, firing on colonial militia, killing and wounding, with destruction along the Concord road. Statements from Captain Barrett and Lt Gould corroborate the first volleys and subsequent fighting to quell the revolt.
Simon Winship from Lexington testifies that on April 19 near the Meeting House he encountered King’s troops who forced him to dismount and march with them. He says troops halted near Captain Parker’s company as an officer shouted fire and a volley followed.
An early issue titled The Town and Country Magazine May 1785 includes engravings such as a portrait resembling Lord S and The Masquerade Discovery. It promises a monthly continuation with varied articles founded on recent facts, printed at St John’s Gate and sold through shops in London.
