Brush fire near Point Mugu scorched 12500 acres

Firefighters contained a large brush fire across the Santa Monica Mountains to the ocean in Southern California. The blaze near Camarillo and Point Mugu State Park forced coast highway closures as Santa Ana winds fanned flames. Two firefighters were injured and air tankers dropped retardant to control the fire.

Reagan tax limit backers outspend foes by large margin

Sacramento reports show Californians for Lower Taxes raising about 676,651 in contributions and spending 793,899 ahead of the November ballot measure. Opponents Californians Against Prop. 1 reported 40,210 raised and 31,607 spent. Fluor Corp. of Los Angeles was the top donor to the pro side with 25,000.

Possible prohibitions include night games, limited business hours, rolling blackouts, and bans on decorative fountains and billboards. Man shoots at radio host and station executive before killing self

Lawrence Kwong, 25, a mental patient, fired on KGO broadcast booth in San Francisco wounding Benjamin Munson 47, who later underwent surgery in very critical condition. Kwong died at a hospital. He believed KGO broadcasts mind controlled him. Jim Dunbar survived unharmed.
