Third Case of Burn Self-Destruction Reported in Four Days

Charlotte authorities reported the third case in four days of a woman attempting death by self immolation. Mrs Key Hooks 28 sustained third degree burns over about two thirds of her body and was in unsatisfactory condition at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Officials said she doused herself with charcoal lighter fluid and set herself afire in her trailer bedroom before dawn. Matches and a death note were found in the kitchen. Earlier, Mrs Pauline Thompson 50 doused herself with gasoline Saturday and ignited it at her home in Gaston County.
