Regents decline to reinstate Angela Davis at UCLA
Regents of the University of California rejected reappointment of Angela Davis as a UCLA physical education instructor after executive session. Chancellor Charles E. Young said the case would not be reopened, citing Davis’s commitments to revolutionary activities. Davis had been acquitted in June of kidnapping murder and related charges from the 1970 Marin Civic Center shooting. In other news, Francis A Sooy was named acting chancellor of UC San Francisco, effective October 1, succeeding Phillip R Lee.

Despite drought, districts resist diverting that amount from their quotas as Goleta seeks to avert shortages by drilling wells. Dee Pagliotti warns the Cachuma park could close if Goleta loses water.
