Education notes on California special education program expansion
The second year of California's comprehensive special education program expands from six to ten counties including Santa Barbara. Lompoc Unified School District will add 8 more resource specialists and continue day classes as funding grows. The program aims to remove labeling and provide education tailored to handicapped and learning disabled students with four broad categories replacing older designations. Sergeant Todd S. Johnson III and Navy cryptologic technician Seaman Chuck M. Younglove Jr. are named locals serving abroad in Germany and aboard USS Mt. Whitney with recent NATO exercises and combat training in Spain.
