Ballard Association rejects routes for Alamo Pintado project

Ballard Improvement and Protective Assn rejects six alternate routes proposed by the County Department of Transportation for widening Alamo Pintado Road north of the Santa Ynez Valley toward Baseline Ave. The group urged a seventh plan that avoids removing two sharp right angle turns, which federal guidelines require be eliminated. The project, pegged at about $1 million with 98 percent funded federally and state matching funds, would cost the county roughly $100,000 for rights of way and engineering. Bob Whitmore of Los Olivos appeared at the meeting, promoting a volunteer fire department for Los Olivos.
