UFW leader Cesar Chavez reported a major advance at more than twenty ranches owned by the Western Growers Association with about 2,000 votes for the United Farm Workers to 300 for the Teamsters. The board ruled ballots would be counted ranch by ranch, not statewide, and noted the multi employer unit was inappropriate. The latest tally shows UFW leading Teamsters 30 to 16 overall, with detailed counts at Salinas Valley ranches and Gallo vineyards pending further action.
