Floating Ocean Power Plants Could Feed Cities
Researchers under NSF contracts explore large scale power from ocean thermal differences. Pilot plants in the 1980s may generate 100 to 500 megawatts using warm surface water and cold deep water to drive a turbine cycle. Potential coastal deployments from Miami northward face environmental and engineering questions.
