Puget Sound fish fail to light up during courtship study
Researchers report midshipman fish along most of the Pacific coast glow during courtship due to luciferin and luciferase. Puget Sound fish in Washington lack this light production, perhaps due to dietary deficiency. Experiments with epinephrine can trigger light in other regions, while Puget Sound specimens show no luciferin or luciferase. The work credits F I Tsuji, A T Barnes, and J F Case.
