Valencia, a longtime Lompoc resident and youth sports advocate, was chosen chair of the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission after four years as a commissioner and one year on Beautification. City eyed senior center plan for Ryan Park site
About 20 Lompoc residents viewed plans for a 2,300 square foot senior center at the southeast corner of Ryan Park. Santa Barbara Architect Richard Taylor outlined a glass and masonry building with a 25 by 40 foot hall and outdoor courts. The project would cost the city 2500 to study and about 151000 to build at current prices, with final decision by the City Council after Parks and Recreation Commission review.

Bomb blasts hit Chelsea buildings housing British servicemen groups
A bomb exploded in Chelsea injuring five policemen and damaging a building housing the Commando Association, the Special Air Services Association, and the Royal Artillery Association in London. Earlier, another blast at Oxford Circus injured five at an insurance firm, part of an IRA campaign extending to Britain with at least 30 injured since Aug. 18.

Auto Pact Talks Extend Hope Ahead of Friday Deadline

PTA council to hold workshop in Lompoc High School library
