Summer BMX and Motocross Ends With Championship Race
By June Andersen Mission Hills summer bicycle motocross competition crowned champions on August 30. Trophies were given by Bill Holmes to top finishers across age groups. In 8-11, Buddy Luxton won first with Jeff Watters second. in 12-15 Doug Pecyna led with Danny West second. High-point ribbons honored Luxton, Pecyna, and West for multiple race-day scores. Final tallies list Luxton 109 and Pecyna 114 as top scorers among 26 participants. First-place trophies and ribbons were donated by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies Association and Mission Hills Community Council. Los Berros School PTA meets September 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafetorium with budget discussions and a Rocking Squares demonstration. Cub Scout Pack 68 notes October meetings and awards for Webelos and new members, with Vin cent Cummings joining Pack 68.

Mission Hills committee notes campout and scout event plans
A committee meeting at Judy Riola's home discussed a father son overnight campout at Jalama Beach on Sept 19 and a Halloween party for scouts and families. An area CampFire Girls meeting is set for Sept 18 at 7 p.m. at Buena Vista School with attendances from La Mesa, Los Berros, and Buena Vista schools. Adult volunteers are sought to support the program.
