Goldwater calls for selective Watergate tape release and debate
Former presidential candidate Barry Goldwater urged President Nixon to release chosen portions of the Watergate tapes and publicly debate disputed testimony with Sen. Sam Ervin's investigating committee. He argued a full airing is needed to move the nation forward and described Watergate as deplorable and stupid. Goldwater also suggested Agnew was pressured to accept the ticket after tensions with Ehrlichman and Haldeman, though he did not name who applied pressure.
