Gas pipeline to Alaska-Canada may bring fuel by 1979
Energy Secretary James Schlesinger said a trans-Canada Alaska gas line could deliver gas to the Midwest and California within about five years. He projected a 37 percent cost overrun, with total costs around 13 to 14 billion dollars. Construction would extend across 731 miles in Alaska and 2023 miles in Canada, with the eastern arm starting first to move gas by winter 1979-80.
