Union rejects J-M final contract offer and keeps workers on

About 400 of Johns-Manville’s 500 employees attended a vote at Lompoc High School after the International Chemical Workers Union Local 14 rejected J-M’s three-year deal. Union leaders say the wage total is about 1.25 an hour above base and seek a two-year term plus broader incentive pay, while J-M cites 1.7 million in raises over three years.

Navarro denies bribery claim in Zaca Lake case at trial

Kissinger Plans Possible Middle East Trip After Rabat Talks

Nixon remains critical but condition more stable

Former President Richard M. Nixon was still on the critical list but doctors said his condition is more stable. They reported some improvement after emergency surgery to block blood clots and noted his internal bleeding had stopped while he remained under intensive care.

Magruder says Nixon pleased by Watergate coverup

Jeb Stuart Magruder testified that in 1972 he was told President Nixon was pleased with efforts to hide Watergate. He described Dean pressuring him and said Mitchell and Haldeman discussed the coverup as trials of Nixon aides continue. Magruder had admitted fabricating a cover story and later pleaded guilty.

Firemen free trapped airmen at Titan II site

Four Air Force personnel trapped for nearly an hour in the Titan II missile center control room when an exit door failed to open. County firemen and Buellton rescue units freed them about 2:30 p.m. after delays at Vandenberg gate. Names not released. Air Force statement sought.
