City of Lompoc plans to hire a woman as a full fledged reserve police officer with selection next week. Six women applied, winner to attend the police academy and serve as a regular reserve officer after graduation.
Fair through Friday except patches of fog or low clouds this morning. Slightly cooler today. Highs today and Friday in the 60s to low 70s. Lows tonight in the mid 40s to low 50s. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming 10 to 20 mph Friday. Friday tides include high tides 3.6 feet at 3 49 am and 5.6 feet at 1 54 pm. Low tides 3 feet at 7 32 am and minus 0.1 ft at 9 53 pm.
The County Planning Commission backed a rezoning of 40 acres from agricultural to 7-R-1 for a 137 lot subdivision with one open space parcel north of the Rigel and Sirius Ave intersection. Company spokesman William Ebbert noted no 7-R-1 lots remain and environmental review waiver was signed at risk. Road and access plans were questioned by commissioners as tentative maps are revised.
In Paris the Viet Cong joined North Vietnam in demanding the United States comply with the Hanoi accord on ending the Vietnam War. Spokesman said Madame Nguyen Thi Binh will urge the U S delegation to honor the agreement at the 164th peace talks session. Diplomatic sources reported the move aims to press Washington despite Thieu’s resistance.
