National antiwar protest kicks off in Washington

Nixon cautions on lofty aims of China and Soviet trip

President Nixon, in a Veterans Day radio address from western Maryland, warned Americans against unreal expectations from his forthcoming trips to Moscow and Peking. He stressed progress in arms talks, the aim of lasting peace, and pledged to do all that reasonable men may do, while noting differences between the U S and the Soviet and Chinese governments. He urged support for veterans and jobs programs for Vietnam era veterans and warned against burdening peace with wartime sacrifices.

South Vietnamese Plane Crash Near Qui Nhon Kills 31

A South Vietnamese air force C47 with 31 aboard crashed three miles south of Qui Nhon due to bad weather. All on board died. Officials tied no direct link to Typhoon Hester. Rescue efforts followed the storm, with reported casualties among both civilians and U.S. forces.

Americans keep buying homes amid wage price freeze impact

Mortgage lending by savings and loan associations stayed near record levels in September with 3.5 billion dollars in loans, up 2-thirds from a year earlier. Trains collide in tunnel in central Japan

Veterans honored at Arlington in rain with Agnew speech

At Arlington National Cemetery a few hundred veterans gathered in rain to mark services and Vietnam era sacrifices. Vice President Spiro Agnew praised those who served, noting the high cost paid by veterans, while the Veterans of Foreign Wars declined participation citing hypocrisy in honoring all veterans in a cemetery nearing capacity.
