Washington reports the Census Bureau projects the US median age rising from 28.6 now to 31.4 to 37 by 2000 as the baby boom cohort born 1956 1965 ages into 35 to 44. Population could reach 246 to 286 million, with blacks rising to about 12.6 12.7 percent and seniors 65 plus to 12.5 percent.

Judge releases Hearst psychiatric reports to lawyers
San Francisco UPI reports psychiatric tests on Patricia Hearst are being distributed to attorneys by Federal Judge Oliver Carter. Attorney Al Johnson said he has received part of the studies and expects the rest, with prosecutors likely getting copies as well. A competency hearing is tentatively set for Wednesday, with Hearst's lawyers seeking bail and possible private mental health commitment. Carter also issued a protective order sealing source materials used in the reports.
