Mud and Debris Cascade Threatens Big Sur as Rains Persist
Heavy rains continued in Big Sur California renewing fears of a new slide. Officials estimate 80 000 tons of mud and debris poised above the village with 12 000 tons already in the area washing onto the coast highway. A teenage girl Catherine Benedict 14 and her younger brother David 10 were listed in critical condition after a two car collision that also injured their mother Joan Benedict 35 and siblings. Other injured include Mark 12 Susie 5 Keith 8 and Hal 2. The Benedict car collided with a vehicle driven by Gilbert Torres of Oxnard. Torres uninjured.
