Alonzo Fred Smitley is appointed manager of the Pacific Finance Loans branch at 145 North H St in Lompoc. A Lompoc native and former assistant manager, Smitley is a Lompoc High School graduate who served four years in the US Navy and studied at Allan Hancock College with wife Charlene and their two children.

Attack Exercise at Vandenberg AFB Plans Simulated Nuclear Strike
Vandenberg Air Force Base will host the Attack Response Exercise on October 30 to test survivability and mission continuity after a nuclear attack. It involves the 1st Strategic Aerospace Division and 4392nd Aerospace Support Group with focus on fallout shelters, control centers, and utilities. A base-wide alert precedes a one-minute wavering siren, but the base remains open and operations resume by 11 a.m.
